Introducing Dermedial Eczema+ Calming Relief Cream

Last Updated: 06/09/2026

One of the most prevalent skin conditions Canadians face

If you were to do an informal poll of everyone you know, would it surprise you to learn that roughly 17-20% of people report being afflicted with eczema? That’s almost 1 out of every 5 people. Of the various types of eczema that affect the skin, the most common is what is called atopic dermatitis. Atopic dermatitis, as defined by the Mayo Clinic, is a chronic, non-contagious inflammatory skin condition often referred to simply as eczema. Characterized by dry, intensely itchy patches of skin, it is driven by a combination of genetics, immune system overactivity, and environmental triggers.

The Canadian Skin Patient Alliance conducted a national survey that concluded up to 87% of individuals with moderate-to-severe eczema share that the condition negatively affects their daily lives in many different ways, including detrimental impact on their sleep habits, overall mental health, and desire to take part in social activities.

The TLDR is that millions of people are looking for relief from this permeating skin condition.

Who does eczema affect?

The National Eczema Association says that approximately 10-15% of children under the age of 5 are currently affected, and that for adults, the prevalence ranges from 2-10% depending on the severity and type. The National Institute of Health says that roughly 15-30% of children and 2-10% of adults will experience some form of eczema in their lifetime. Suffice to say, you need not look far or wide in order to find someone affected by eczema and its symptoms; intensely itchy, severely dry, sore and inflamed skin.

What are the most common treatments for eczema?

Today, some of the most common forms of treatment for eczema include those that address first and foremost the skin barrier and aim to increase moisturization. The foundation of all treatment and care for eczema starts here, and includes the use of creams, balms and ointments that tend to be thick, rich and nourishing while acting as protection against moisture loss.

There are topical application products that have long been used as a primary method of treatment called corticosteroids. Though they come in different strengths, the intention of their use is that they can reduce acute bouts of itching and inflammation. Increasingly, people are looking to non-steroidal creams and ointments that according to the Eczema Society of Canada can be used to target specific pathways in the skin that can reduce the associated itching and inflammation.

For moderate to severe and more persistent cases, some people choose to explore oral and injectable medications when eczema and its symptoms don’t respond positively to other treatments.

Saje’s newest innovation in skincare for eczema

At Saje, we have believed for more than 34 years that when you feel your best, you’re able to contribute most positively to your own life and to the lives of people in your family and community. We’ve heard our community members share over many years how permeating and sometimes debilitating the condition of eczema can be to quality of life, which is why we’re beyond thrilled to introduce our newest innovation in skincare called Dermedial Eczema+ cream, created as a balm-like cream that was formulated to relieve irritation and itching at the source, made with lipid-rich oils and 5% colloidal oats as the heroes in the formulation.

Our Eczema+ cream is dermatologist-tested, a Health Canada-licensed Natural Health Product (NHP), and is both rich and nourishing to help the skin retain moisture as needed for relief. The simplest way to celebrate this product? It's a daily use cream that helps relieve irritation and itching due to eczema. Like every product at Saje, it's made fully from plant ingredients, is steroid-free and is safe for use for 6+ months of age.

We can’t wait to share more about what makes this product so effective.

Hero ingredients in Dermedial Eczema+ calming relief cream

Accepted by the Eczema Society of Canada, we’ve blended a formula that is both thoughtful and highly intentional. It’s a rich, plant-powered eczema cream that is licensed to temporarily protect and help relieve minor skin irritation and itching due to rashes, eczema, poison ivy/oak/sumac, and insect bites without steroids, fragrance, or synthetics. It's been dermatologist-tested, clinically tested, and is safe for daily use from 6+ months of age. It's been formulated and positioned for use on the body, but is gentle enough for use on the face, including the delicate eye area and eyelids.

A key differentiator in our formula is that it's powered by 5% colloidal oats, whereas many products on the market formulate at 1-2%. We crafted our formula to include lipid-rich plant oils like marula, kukui, chia, and more, many of which are known for their skin supportive benefits. This thick, non-greasy, and balm-like formula can be applied as a thin layer on top of active eczema or gently rubbed-in fully to comfort eczema-prone area as needed.

More on colloidal oats and other key ingredients in Dermedial Eczema+

Derived from whole, dehulled grains of oats, colloidal oats are the star of the Eczema+ cream, and is the active, medicinal ingredient in the formula. It's produced by grinding and milling the oat kernels into an extremely fine powder that can easily disperse in water. "Colloidal oatmeal is an FDA-regulated skin protectant often recommended by dermatologists for managing eczema because it acts as an emollient to soothe irritated skin and forms a barrier to lock in moisture." Colloidal oats contain avenanthramides, which are unique compounds that are both potent antioxidants and anti-inflammatories that soothe skin irritation and reduce redness. Generally well-tolerated, colloidal oats rarely produce side effects and are safe for both children and adults. Colloidal oats contain lipids that help moisturize and soften dry, rough-feeling skin, helping to prevent further moisture loss.

Our formula also includes chia seed oil, which is pressed from the seeds of the plant salvia hispanica. Chia seeds are typically cold pressed to preserve their high antioxidant content. They are rich in omega-3, helping to calm the appearance of inflammation and to support strengthening the skin's moisture barrier.

We use kukui seed oil, which is pressed from the nuts, sometimes called seeds, of the kukui tree, also known as the candlenut tree. It's traditionally used for eczema-prone skin; both deeply nourishing and soothing, it helps reduce TEWL (trans epidermal water loss) which is helpful in supporting when the skincare barrier is compromised.

Additionally, we've formulated with marula seed oil, which is derived from the kernels of the marula fruit from the marula tree. It's a lightweight oil that's rich in oleic acid, known to soften without clogging or irritating and is highly emollient which can help to soften deeply rough skin.

We are fervent believers in this new product and the results we’ve already seen it produce in our own Team Members, their families and now in our community. We can’t wait for your thoughts, comments, and feedback on our newest innovation in remedial skincare.

Frequently asked questions about eczema

Is Dermedial Eczema+ Cream suitable for kids?

Yes, our Dermedial Eczema+ cream is blended to be safe for use at 6+ months of age and up. Our product is accepted by the Eczema Society of Canada and recognized as free from known skin irritants like synthetic fragrance, steroids and dyes or colorants, so you can feel confident it is safe and effective for delicate skin.

Can Dermedial Eczema+ Cream be used alongside prescription creams?

We would always recommend a conversation with your trusted healthcare practitioner to ensure there are no contraindicated ingredients between formulations. Dermedial Eczema+ is made from plants and botanicals that are known to be safe and effective in addressing eczema symptoms on the skin, and we want to ensure the products you’re using are best suited to your personal skin needs.

Can I use Dermedial Eczema+ Cream every day?

Yes, Dermedial Eczema+ is safe for daily use, and was formulated specifically for daily management, versus other products on the market that are formulated for occasional use. Ours is a daily use cream that is effective at helping to relieve irritation and itching due to eczema.

Can I use Dermedial Eczema+ Cream on both face and body?

Yes, while Demedial Eczema+ was specifically created to address targeted areas of eczema flares on the body, it is safe and gentle enough to use on the face, including the delicate eye area and eyelids.

How is Dermedial Eczema+ different from traditional eczema creams?

Our Dermedial Eczema+ cream differs from other traditional products in that it is made solely from plant ingredients. We celebrate that nature makes so many interesting and effective plants that aren't always distilled as essential oils and work in their own ways to treat many conditions safely, as is the case here. Additionally, we’ve blended our formula with 5% colloidal oats, a known skin protectant that acts as the medicinal ingredient in the formulation. Many other products on the market contain 1-2% colloidal oats, but we wanted to ensure our formula was rich in this key active ingredient that is recommended by dermatologists for managing eczema because it acts as an emollient to soothe irritated skin and forms a barrier to lock in moisture.

Can Dermedial Eczema+ Cream help during eczema flare-up periods?

Yes, it is safe to use Dermedial Eczema+ cream during skin flares to help ease, soothe, relieve and restore the skin. Always trust your own judgement in making decisions for your skin based on your known reactions to product application during acute periods of eczema flares.

Is Dermedial Eczema+ formulated without essential oils?

Yes, this product is free from essential oils, which are known irritants and can act as triggers for eczema flares, as per dermatologist recommendations to avoid. Instead, we’re utilizing other plant parts and lipid-rich plant oils like marula, kukui, chia and more, many of which are known for their skin-supportive benefits.

Can I use Dermedial Eczema+ if I have a nut allergy?

Those who identify as having nut allergies should be advised that oils like marula and kukui are derived from the nuts/seeds/kernels of their respective trees and medical experts generally advise avoiding using these oils topically if a nut allergy is present. A best practice is to consult with your own trust healthcare provider; the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology says "whether a nut oil contains allergenic protein depends upon the extraction process used to obtain the oil" so this will be to a person’s own personal discretion.
