This August, we are excited to host The Class by Taryn Toomey inside our Abbot Kinney location. Right in the heart of Venice Beach, this location and this class are both at the center of a growing wellness culture in Southern California. Every Tuesday and Thursday, students will be moving their bodies and shaking their souls on the path to their highest selves, with the added benefit of the healing power of plants.
We asked our new friends Natalie and Erin at The Class by Taryn Toomey for some insight into what The Class is all about, and what students will experience.
THE VENICE VIBE
What do you see trending right now in the wellness community?
The wellness community in Venice, as well as the surrounding areas, is blossoming. While Venice still maintains its quirky and eccentric reputation, it is simultaneously emerging as a hub for all things health and wellness. We see our peers making choices that best support their overall holistic well being.
People are trading in late nights for early morning workouts, traditional lattes for superfood-imbued tonics and prescriptions for acupuncture. There is a burgeoning awareness around the power we each possess to create the life we want. More people are becoming mindful of how they spend their time and money.
Since The Class by Taryn Toomey covers mind, body, spirit and heart, we see it as a natural choice for those walking the path to the highest version of themselves.
THE PATH TO BECOMING
What drew Natalie to The Class?
Natalie Kuhn, now Senior Instructor and Executive Director of The Class by Taryn Toomey met Taryn when she was hosting The Class out of her apartment. Natalie was drawn to a practice that combined spiritual excavation with physical intensity, that used the body as a vehicle to heal the energetic and emotional. Four years later, Natalie brought The Class by Taryn Toomey to Los Angeles where she leads classes as well as the Teacher Training program for the West Coast.
Prior to meeting Taryn, Natalie toured the globe as a dancer for various rock bands. An actor and performer at heart, Natalie was well-equipped to step into a role that helped her students connect their body to their internal landscape, and through that connection, discover peace.
Natalie proudly teaches alongside the other instructors of The Class by Taryn Toomey LA: Erin Ward, Heather Lilleston, Brenna Dwyer, Shakeema Welsch and Alison McLea.
THE POWER OF SYNERGY
What makes the combination of The Class and Saje so powerful?
The ethos of both brands is similar: Saje and The Class are working to support people on their journeys to optimal living. The Class instructors had already begun using Saje products in class before the partnership formed, and we are so honored to get to work with Saje Wellness in a continually expanding capacity. The synergy is palpable.
What really strikes us about Saje, and what The Class by Taryn Toomey strives to do as well, is that they create healing for everyBODY. No matter what the circumstance or experience of the individual, Saje has something that will support and enhance.
Saje is not exclusive nor discriminatory; everyone is welcome to come in and find what they are looking for, or that which they didn’t yet know they need. We hope that our students leave feeling as supported and as excited as we know customers do when they visit Saje.
AN INTEGRATED APPROACH
Tell us about how Saje will be integrated into the in-store class experience.
The Class by Taryn Toomey instructors are so excited to use the essential oil blends during the end of class when giving soft and nurturing touch to students. The aromatherapy component adds a level of love that is an ideal complement to the work done throughout The Class.
Peppermint Halo Headache Remedy and Tranquility Relaxing Diffuser Blend are two favourite blends. Each instructor will have a Pocket Farmacy on hand for whatever they feel is needed in class that day. We will also have a diffuser going during class to create a clean environment for the work of the class to be done.
What can students expect from The Class: physically, mentally and emotionally?
What we tell students is to go in without expectation. There will be intention, movement, sweat, sound and breath. There will be fire and there will be softness. Each level of one’s being — mind, body, spirit — will be intentionally strengthened and explored.
We offer a cathartic movement experience. Through simple, repetitive calisthenics and plyometrics, participants challenge the body to engage the mind. With guided instruction and carefully curated music, this class invites students to witness their resistance to discomfort. The result is an expansive, heart-opening, body-strengthening release. This class will challenge and enlighten you all while building an incredibly strong, lean, resilient body.
